Jeff Campbell

Jeff Campbell is a freelance writer, book editor, and writing teacher who has enjoyed a diverse thirty-year career in publishing. He has published three award-winning animal science books for young adults, all with Zest Books/Lerner: Daisy to the Rescue: True Stories of Daring Dogs, Paramedic Parrots, and Other Animal Heroes (October 2014); Last of the Giants: The Rise and Fall of Earth’s Most Dominant Species (March 2016); and Glowing Bunnies!?: Why We’re Making Hybrids, Chimeras & Clones (May 2022).

For over a decade, Jeff was an award-winning travel guide writer for Lonely Planet. He coauthored over a dozen travel guides, including several editions of Hawaii, Florida, Southwest, and USA (whose 3rd edition won the Lowell Thomas Silver Award for best guidebook). He was also a contributing essayist to The Middle of Nowhere.

As a book editor, Jeff has specialized in a wide range of nonfiction as well as young adult fiction. His subject matter expertise includes self-help and spirituality, pop culture and entertainment, sports, US history, and science, particularly animal intelligence (including eight books by scientist Marc Bekoff, such as The Emotional Lives of Animals).

For over a decade, Jeff has also been a part-time creative writing teacher for kids and adults. He lives in Morristown, New Jersey, with his wife and two children.
